I just finished listening to this podcast, and am wondering about Genesis 1:28. “And God blessed them. And God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over every living thing that moves on the earth.”

“Fill the earth.” This implies that the land is not inhabited at this point. Who are these “descendants” from whom Adam comes?

Sorry, I have this pesky habit of trying to be logical in my reading of Scripture. You haven’t dissuaded me yet from my YEC (young earth creationism)…

Hey Peter, I guess I would ask, “Why does it imply that the land was not inhabited?”

I think you are assuming your point. Could I not hand you a glass of water that was half full and say, “Fill the glass.”

Consider Genesis 35:11 Also God said to him: “I am God Almighty. Be fruitful and multiply; a nation and a company of nations shall proceed from you, and kings shall come from your body.

Does this also then imply that at Jacobs time that the land was not inhabited?

I think it means that the land was simply not inhabited with the chosen people of God.

Keep asking my friend…Keep knocking. You’ll find the answers.

Mike
